12 August 2010 - a bit of a face lift

Yesterday while Dennis & Gail were visiting/playing with Will, I locked myself in my sewing room & made new pillow covers for my family room. I've never sewn pillows before, let alone with zippers. My mom tried to teach me when I was pregnant with Will, but I was too busy stretching out across the stairs feeling sick, so she just made them for me. So when I tried putting in my first zipper, I was stumped - I read the directions, looked up "how-to" articles & videos, & still didn't understand. After an hour of trying to decode the whole zipper thing, I finally found a tutorial that made sense. After a full day of sewing, I finished my pillows, & I really LOVE the way they turned out!

I made 2 each of 3 different pillows - all reversible, so I have the option of displaying 6 "different" pillows.

I also got rid of Will's toy chest & replaced it with bookshelves/storage from Ikea. I bought a bookshelf for each side of our entertainment center, & they fit perfectly! It makes the room so much more organized, & I don't feel like I'm going to pull my hair out every time I look at Will's stockpile of toys - this is a good thing for both of us.
Will was having a hard time getting his pull-dog out of the basket.

A great place to store all my overflow books & magazines. It's still not perfect, but it's a huge improvement!

I also broke down & FINALLY bought a "Keep Calm and Carry On" poster (& it's already calmed me down many times). I've been eyeing these for such a long time, but could never decide on a color - I'm really happy I went with the Navy.  I also tacked a Hallmark card onto the frame because it always makes me smile - two old women sitting on a bench seriously discussing whether it's "butt naked" or "buck naked" - got to love it.

And here's a very short & very poor quality video of William dancing. He gallops all over the house like that!

Video of William Walking

Will's been walking for about a month now. He has great balance, is very sturdy, can pretty much turn on a dime, & dribbles balls down the hall.  I'm amazed at how fast this kid learns - it may take him a while to do something (like walk, or clap his hands), but once he decides he wants to do it, he just takes off!

Video of William walking in his squeaky shoes - he really gets cruising at the end.

Videos

Will has discovered a love for balloons. This balloon entertained him for longer than a week, & he'd chase it & hit it for an hour at a time. I really appreciated the break :)

I loved this video of Will & my mom - especially the tender moment at the end when my mom didn't know I was still filming.

Playing Catch

As I've mentioned before, William loves playing with balls. He chases them around until exhausted. He's most recently started throwing tantrums when the ball rolls away from him - throwing himself face down on the ground & just crying because he's tired of chasing after the ball, either that, or he'll throw himself on top of the ball, so it won't roll away, & then proceed to cry (it's a love/hate relationship). I think it's safe to say that he's happiest when someone will play catch with him, so he doesn't have to do as much chasing. If I do say so myself, he throws a pretty good overhand. I also love the fact that we didn't have to teach him to play catch - it's just something he started doing on his own a few months ago. Maybe that's normal, but he's my first kid, so I'm impressed by most everything he does.

Hamming it Up

Will is such a ham, just like his dad. My mom was feeding him lunch, & he just started laughing for no reason other than to entertain her. He didn't think anything was particularly funny, he just liked watching her reaction & hearing the crazy sounds coming out of his mouth.

Forgotten Video & Stuck on a Box

Here's a video I found of William when he was a few weeks old. It's amazing how much he's changed in just under a year. (Just ignore Scott's tooting comment.)

I took this video today, so my family can see a current one of Will (they've been asking me to post a video for a while). I love listening to him talk - (my 7-year-old nephew - Zach, on the other hand, claims to speak baby talk & informed me that Will's not saying anything. I beg to differ - it sounds to me like he's trying to repeat the word 'box').

Video of William Crawling

My mom is in the midwest for the summer & misses her grandson so much - she keeps telling me to put a video of him crawling on the blog, so she can see her baby, so here it is. It starts with William the first day that he crawled (June 18) & then ends with a clip from earlier today (he's still army crawling, but is much more proficient at it).

Eating Watermelon for the First Time

It was so funny watching Will eat watermelon for the first time. When he'd first start sucking, he'd shake (which I caught a small bit of him doing on the camera). He loved that cold watermelon juice.
